Incredible source of information

An incredible source of information indeed. While the (very few) pictures are in B&W and very dark, the large number of drawings are of excellent quality. As said in other reviews, it deals mainly with timber applications and not e.g. furniture, but the whole is very detailed and complete in nature. Whether it works out in practice, time and experience will tell.
Shipping was very slow, but that is not uncommon to this country (Cambodia). Anyhow, it has arrived, and I am very happy.

The title is "almost" accurate

This is a fantastic book. A combination of two previous works Japanese Joinery: A Handbook for Joiners and Carpenters, and Japanese Woodworking : A Handbook of Japanese Tool Use & Woodworking Techniques, it combines in one volume most of you need to know to put these joints together. More impressive, the book gives a great idea of how these joints fit together into a completed Japanese-style house, and you see why the complexity is necessary.

Caveats for Western woodworkers have been stated elsewhere, but bear repeating. Japanese carpentry arose in a setting where softwoods with clear and buttery smooth grain were the only widely available lumber woods. These joints are largely impossible to use with the more common Western hardwoods. Still, this was a fascinating read and I came away with a much better idea of the principles of house carpentry, as well as frank awe of the craftsmen who put together multi-story temples with only hand tools as though they were jigsaw puzzles. Inspirational to anyone who enjoys woodworking.

After looking at this book I feel like I should take off my hat and observe a moment of silence. Leave it to the Japanese to make an art form out of timber framing. But if you are into this sort of over-the-top perfectionism, this book is for you. I use it to bring myself back to earth - no way I'll ever make such perfect timbers, especially by hand, and no way I'll cut a complicated joint where a simpler, proven one is just as good. On the good side, this is an excellent treatise if you want to see how someone else does their framing very differently from us.

This new book integrates his expressivism for normative language with a theory of how the meaning of meaning could be normative. The result applies to itself: metaethics expands to address key topics in the philosophy of language, topics which in turn include core parts of metaethics. An upshot is to lessen the contrast between expressivism and nonnaturalism: in their strongest forms, the two converge in all their theses. Still, they differ in the explanations they give. Nonnaturalists' explanations mystify, whereas expressivists render normative thinking intelligible as something to expect from beings like us, complexly social products of natural selection who talk with each other.

Great book from Michael Clarke

Great book from Michael Clarke. His autobiography confirms to the reader his relentless work ethic and his positivity towards the game of cricket. Very few captains moved the game as much as Michael and it was always entertaining to see his field settings for batsmen.I was fortunate to watch Michael in live his debut test and one of his last few games and am very grateful for the experience. Thanks Pup!

Look this isn't my first review, so Im putting my best foot forward and grabbing it by the throat!...so to speak.

I opened it but to be honest I only lasted until about the mid 30s before I had to go out. Michael clearly hadn't done his homework, and the book has less highlights than his hair. No surprises that it is only available as a soft cover.

Overall: would not recommend tot he boys.
