An excellent foundation or refresher text for physics students

Although this doesn't follow the high school curriculum that my kids are taking, Breithaupt's textbook has been a useful resource for understanding concepts and refreshing my old mind on science I haven't touched for decades!
A good book to dip into too, for those of us so inclined ;-)

About the Author

Natalie Savage Carlson is fondly remembered as the author of the much-loved Orpheline series and Surprise in the Mountains. Born in Virginia, Ms. Carlson later lived in Oklahoma, Rhode Island, and the Pacific Northwest. She eventually settled in Florida prior to her death.



Garth Williams's classic illustrations for the Little House books caused Laura to remark that she "and her folks live again in these pictures." Garth Williams also illustrated Charlotte's Web, Stuart Little, and almost one hundred other books.

Wonderful book probably best for around 7-9 year olds to read themselves but thats just a guess

Great book I read in school as a child I got this to add to my homeschool and just story book collection for my son who is 4 now. its not enough pictures to keep him engaged fully yet but we made it 4 chapters in one day before he was done checked out completely-- that was just a kind of test to see if he was ready for it and i know know hes not but i love the story and it paints a vivid picture for a child you also get to explain new things to them some words we just dont use so its a good for vocabulary growth and a classic i would say. My son already is putting the story together and feels sympathy for the children and knows Armand does have a heart etc . Its cute to see father christmas introduced as well since we never call him that around here my son has already learned so much from just one go at it i will be reading it many times until hes able to himself in the future.

The Girls Guide is also a Good Middle Age Guide

I'm not finished with this book but I'm loving it. I'm not even embarrassed to say I'm past the "girl age". I am 47yo and feeling like I never received the manual on "how to get along better in life". I have other books like this but they are very dry, too PhD point of view. This book is a breath of fresh air, I'm drinking it like Pellegrino on a warm Spring day. I'm just appreciating this book, the way it's written - in layman terms, with a sense of humor but also with hardcore knowledge and wisdom behind it. A real persons guide to helping navigate real daily problems.

So far so good. I'm only 30 pages in and I'm already swearing by this! Some things are obviously common sense that women in their 20's should already be aware of. A little redundant when it comes to working out but then again I'm not really a fan of working out to begin with :P I can't put this book down

Girl's Guide

So, I'm the kind of person that didn't pay attention to certain things growing up. I'm good at outdoorsy stuff but girl stuff seems so difficult. There's things that I've wondered and had no trustworthy way of answering (no thank you google) and maybe they're too embarrassing to ask... but this book was helpful.There were some things I really wanted to know about (money, buying, renting, etc) and some that were TMI in the best possible way (some 'doctor appointments' I'm too scared to schedule because I have no idea what to expect...) I would suggest this to young women 18 to mid twenties who are a little clueless. It helps.

"My Bible" For All My Writing Needs and Grammatical Error Corrections

When I was in college, The Gregg Reference Manual was referred to by the professors as "The Bible". Just like the title says, it covers all the bases for all your writing needs at least on the business level of Style, Grammar, Usage, and Formatting. The book gets better with each edition adding new things to keep up with the technology of today's world. My favorite section of the book it the words that sound alike but spelled differently. Whenever I am not sure which word to use, like "Affect" and "Effect", I head to the GRM. If I am not sure on term papers or reports, I head to the GRM. It is a great book for secretaries and administrative assistants. They have added new sections to keep up with computer usage as in my days of high school and college, we were using manual and electric typewriters and computers are now the basic source for typing correspondence, reports, and all the computer software used in today's business world. I will always buy the latest edition, even though earlier editions, they only change a few words or things, but this is the best reference book to have in your library like a dictionary and thesaurus is.

The ISBN code is for the Eighth Canadian Edition, which is what I received and is what you will probably receive if you order from this seller, because even though I have made a complaint to them about this, they continue to post the same thing at Amazon.

She returns, compelled, like Marlowe in Heart of Darkness to tell her story to others—like her missing supervisor, whose empty office she “occupies” on her return, illustrating her monologue of despair on a blackboard to an absent colonial authority for which the audience stands in as its silent and complicit witness.

Could have been written in one third of the pages ....

Trust is not something you can teach like an academic subject, it has to be illustrated by great stories. That Covey did an excellent job. He also gave a couple of specific tangible and pictorial models to frame the thoughts into our heads to take shape, and for that I give a full thumb up.

But, from page of 125 onwards at the Second Wave, I skipped pages very quickly because it was written way too long with way too much quotes and illustrations. Covey kept repeating and kept reminding either with the same or more illustrations. While I agree that the 13 behaviours are all great stuff, I would prefer to do more with less. Maybe 3 to 5 would do the kill. The remaining 200 pages simply did not deliver the punch that the first 100 did.

Content to Keep

About a year ago I began realizing how important trust is in almost every aspect of life and desired to better understand how I could demonstrate trustworthiness. This book confirmed my realization of the importance of trust as Covey repeatedly underlines the necessity of trust in the “new economy.”

This book was incredibly insightful and full of great content. I read it in about 2 weeks which is what I would recommend since the material is so reliant on the framework Covey creates of 4 Cores, 13 Behaviors Trust Waves, etc. You would always want to have that framework fresh in your mind. There are good visuals (such as a tree and waves) provided that help you remember the structure, but the author continually comes back to these to make all his applications.

Covey stresses how building trust requires both character and competence. He also does a great job taking the major teachings of the book and mixing up the applications between personal and professional scenarios. Anyone who wants to have the trust of others wants that to be true in every aspect (and relationship) of their life, so I’m glad this book does not just focus on the business scene.

Beyond the visuals, the book occasionally provides self-assessments where the reader can judge their own grasp of what is being taught. The book very much calls the reader to take action, conveying that information alone does not make someone more trustworthy.

The content of this book was solid and was written with great mastery. I would say the book is heavy on content and theory and leaves the reader to determine a game plan on their own. Along with that, the content also only focuses on building trust based on who you are and what you do. Have you ever met someone who based on simply the way they look or carry themselves you unexplainably think of them as untrustworthy? If so, there’s nothing in this book to help you. Again, the content is great, but applying it requires others watch you and your work for an extended period of time. There wasn’t really much for someone looking to build a first impression of trust.

I recommend the book. I recommend you read it, highlight and underline, and then keep it somewhere to be referred to later. There is simply too much good content to read over once and never come back to.

The Hidden Variable in the Formula of Success!

1- "In fact, both my personal life and my work as a business practitioner over the past 20 years have convinced me that there is a lot we can do about it. We can increase trust--much faster than we might think--and doing so will have a huge impact, both in the quality of our lives and in the results we're able to achieve."

2- "Simply put, trust means confidence. The opposite of trust--distrust-- is suspicion. When you trust people, you have confidence in them. When you distrust people, you are suspicious of them--of their integrity, their agenda, their capabilities, or their track record. It We have all had experiences that validate the difference between relationships that are built on trust and those that are not. These experiences clearly tell us the difference is not small; it is dramatic."

3- "Here's a simple formula that will enable you to take trust from an intangible and unquantifiable variable to an indispensable factor that is both tangible and quantifiable. The formula is based on this critical insight: Trust always affects two outcomes--speed and cost. When trust goes down, speed will also go down and costs will go up. When trust goes up, speed will also go up and costs will go down."

4- "Whether it's high or low, trust is the "hidden variable" in the formula for organizational success. The traditional business formula says that strategy times execution equals results: But there is a hidden variable to this formula. Trust--either the low trust tax, which discounts the output, or the high-trust dividend which multiplies it."

About the Author

Alan Baddeley is Professor of Psychology at York University and one of the world's leading authorities on Human Memory. He is celebrated for devising the ground-breaking and highly influential working memory model with Graham Hitch in the early 1970s, a model which still proves valuable today in recognising the functions of short-term memory. He was awarded a CBE for his contributions to the study of memory, is a Fellow of the Royal Society, of the British Academy and of the Academy of Medical Sciences. In 2012 he was the recipient of the BPS Research Board's Lifetime Achievement Award recognising his outstanding record of personal achievements and significant contributions to the advancement of psychological knowledge.

Michael W. Eysenck is a Professorial Fellow at Roehampton University. He is also Emeritus Professor and Honorary Fellow at Royal Holloway University of London.�Within his research he has focused on various topics within memory research (e.g., levels of processing; distinctiveness). However, for many years his research has focused mainly on anxiety and cognition (including memory). He is the best-selling author of a number of textbooks including Cognitive Psychology: A Student's Handbook, 6th Edition (with Mark T. Keane) (2010), Fundamentals of Cognition, 2nd edition�(2012), Simply Psychology, 2nd edition (2013) and Fundamentals of Psychology (2009).

Michael C. Anderson was the director of the Memory Control Laboratory at the University of Oregon until 2007. He then moved to�the University of St. Andrews, Scotland, where he accepted a Chair in Cognitive Neuroscience, before finally moving to the MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit in Cambridge, England in 2009.�Professor Anderson's research on memory control has been featured in Newsweek, US News and World Report, the New York Times, CNN, BBC World News, and the New Scientist.

and this book was very useful to me for that

I needed a quick overview of the state of memory research, and this book was very useful to me for that. I felt that it was more useful in the domains of working memory and episodic memory, and weakest in semantic memory, but reading the whole thing was definitely worthwhile.
